Re: Is this quote about volume true?

Wednesday - Legs and Shoulders
Squat 6x12
Leg Extensions 4x12 (wish I had leg press machine)
Calf Raises 5x15
Deadlift 3x10
Leg curls 3x12
DB Shoulder Press 3x12
Lateral Raises 3x12
Rear Delt Rows 3x12

Yup. I find it hard to believe that you can do 6 sets of growth-inducing squats, then go on to do 3 sets of deadlifts, and still be able to do a shoulder routine. Especially 6 sets of squats in the 12 rep range. I dont know about you but after set 4 of high rep squats, I'm in no mood to talk about wanting to do shoulders. A man can get shot talking like that.

Re: Is this quote about volume true?

I have never, ever thought about what my routine will be when I cange it. I tell ya, there's a lot of talk about changing up routines. Too much talk. I focus 100% on what my routine is now. Don't miss this. When my routine changes, it's effortless, and the routine changes me. Get it? Something in my workout changes itself and I go with it. That's when you know you are ready to change. Your body will tell you. For example, I can't remember the last time I did a lat cable pull down. My routine changed itself when I decided weighted pull ups were the shit. I just stopped going over to that machine and before I realized it, I had canned the exercise.

I would like to suggest making your workout a little more simple. Mine usually stays like Arnold's was.

1. chest, arms
2. back, shoulders
3. legs
4. rest
5. repeat

It's very simple. My volume? depends on what bodypart. How many sets do I do? Until I decide I've had enough, or until I decide how severe my punishment will be for being late to work. But I always keep in mind whether I will use high volume with moderately heavy weight, or lower volume with heavy weight. "Light weight" is not allowed in the equation.

Try keeping it a little more simple.

Ideally yes, but I couldn't fit shoulders anywhere else. I don't want to do shoulders on same day as chest AND triceps.

I posted my last reply before I saw your post. I do like your suggestion of Chest arms, back shoulders, legs so I will give it a go. I also like your approach to volume - being one of punishment as opposed to squeezing out the numbers. I think what I'll do is write down the volume in my notebook as I go along and see if I feel like doing more sets or not on each particular workout. I still want to use high volume, but only as a basic guide, because low volume hasn't been that great for me.
PS I didn't mean light as in easy, the 12 rep sets will be just as taxing, I just want to mix it up a bit.
PPS I've noticed you do an 8 day split, not seven, thanks for giving me an extra rest day!

Re: Is this quote about volume true?

You're awesome bro. Now, shouldn't you be breaking down the doors to the gym right now? I want you to go there, NOT looking for a workout, but rather looking to have a total muscular shock by virtue of taxing your muscles and lifting heavier weight for more repetitions. Stronger..... Longer..... More weight....... More sets....... More reps..... The weight lays on the rack....waiting for you. The weight sees you enter the doors and jeers as you glove up. It's pride will soon be its downfall. The weight has made many men feel like mice. Why should you be any different? You step up to the challenge of the weight. Will you let the weight defeat you and limit you to just a meager few reps? Will you fall to the devastation of an inspired and envisioned set cut short by the merciless crushing force of the weight? Will you walk the walk of shame, of which many men has walked and felt the weight laugh at you, with your back turned in shame as you wonder what went wrong? Or will you defeat the weight? Will you step up to the challenge and prove to be victorious over the arrogant barbell? Only you can make that a reality as you achieve your sets with full strength..... and silently, in your heart and in your mind, you raise your arms in victory and flip the perverbial bird to the scoffing weight, and put it in it's place as a force that is inferior to your own steadfast, overbearing, and unstoppable human strength.

Re: Is this quote about volume true?

Perhaps this is where I'm going wrong. My weights are the boss of me, I'm just their bitch.
Somethings never change huh?
