confused Think I may have done something to my tri?

I was in the gym as usual today working upper body and decided (as you do) to up the weight on my dips.

I usually use one of those assisted machine doodads for it, usually set to 45kg (I can never figure out how they work so I'll leave it at that), but today I upped it to 30 to really get a workout on my tris (which I haven't had for a while).

First set of five went okay, but about the third rep into the second set, my right tricep started to ache. On the fourth rep it got worse, and on the fifth it felt like something was about to go.

It didn't actually hurt, but felt weaker than normal, or like something was about to go "ping". It was at the back at the top of my arm, just behind my delt.

I haven't got a clue what it was but it still doesn't hurt. I was watching in the mirror so I know my form was spot-on, I had almost finished my workout so I was definitely warmed up enough, I'm just assuming I went too heavy, but should I leave it be for now or rest it for a lot longer than I usually do?

Any ideas?

Re: Think I may have done something to my tri?

I think it's just the weight you were using. When i did hammie curls, I'd get the same thing in them. The last rep is a miracle if i can actually do it without them feeling like they're coming off the bone.

If it doesn't get better.....amputate from the neck down.
Sounds to me like you may have pushed it a bit. as long as it didn't swell or turn colors, I would think you are OK. And liek everyone said....give it a few days, you'll be fine. You're too tuff for injuries!!!!

Re: Think I may have done something to my tri?

Thanks for the advice guys. It's been a couple of days and it feels fine now although I haven't worked it again yet (too sore lol), but I'll keep an eye out...

Maybe the assisted dip thingy just isn't my thing? I think I'll start using a couple of benches and some weight, see if it makes a difference. Good idea maybe?

That's a possiblity. I can't use the proper dip station thing because the position it puts my wrists (and therefore elbows) in really hurts me. I havent' done dips in ages and i used to do them BW until i really hurt myself on that rack.

Give them a try on a bench with a weight in your lap or something, maybe just a slight change in angle will take the pressure off a little? Let us know how you get on

Re: Think I may have done something to my tri?

the machines are mostly made for people 5'8" to 5'10". There are a lot of the machines that I can't use because of this.

I'm 5'8" so technically it should be ideal for my height, but I think I'll leave the damn thing alone and go for the benches, get into it that way.

You guys rock, btw - thank you!

Dip machine height means nothing. Just as long as theres a step to start you off at the top of the movement.

it was a general statement for the majority of gym machine designs (ex: preacher curl machine, crunch bench, etc.).
