Need some advise

I am currently eating 4xxx calories. Yes, I know it is a lot. I want to lower the calories because I don't want to gain fat but I don’t know how low to go. I was reading the article on T-nation and with a lean body mass (LBM) of 170, I should be eating 3400 calories. However, I don’t know my LBM since I don’t know my fat percentage (guessing 20%). I went to calorie-count.com to find BMR and they say its 3400calories but their definition of moderate activity is
At work - you are very active much of the day
At home - you rarely sit and do heavy housework or gardening
Exercise - you exercise several times a week and push yourself pretty hard
The only one on that list that applies to me is the exercise. What should I do try 3500calories or.......... I don’t want to take away growth time. I am currently 216lbs. I have fat calipers but dont they just measure fat at one spot?

Re: Need some advise

there's no perfect science to determine your necessary caloric intake. some days you might burn more than others.

the best way to do it is to have a starting point (ex. 3400) and eat that for about a week and see if you lose, gain, or maintain, if you're sluggish, etc. then adjust it accordingly.

Re: Need some advise

What kind of calipers don't measure in one spot?
Go with 3500 cals for a month, you won't lose growth time. REMEMBER this gaining muscle thing takes TIME!!!!! everyone wants to gain 30lbs of muscle NOW.....well it won't happen. If you are in a hurry, you will fail. You HAVE TO experiment w/ your body or you will learn nothing. I have been experimenting w/ mine for 12 years and still learning new things.

The Rules:
Train hard
Eat clean
Rest
Patience
Learn your body

Try it out for a month and let us know how it works. I've been using a 40/30/30 split for a while now.
