Question About red wine?

I know this is probably in the wrong section, but I absolutely adore red wine. Only problem is, I haven't a clue about calorific content so can't include it in my cals for the day.

Does anyone have a clue where I can find it out? And is there a difference between calorific density based on the region or area the grapes were grown in?

If anyone else likes wine, I'd recommend the Banrock Station Shiraz Mataro - fantastic texture, very ripe and full taste (I could easily drink a bottle in a week, gorgeous stuff).

I'm not exactly sure but I did find this and it seems to make sense.

Re: About red wine?

I would not worry about 1 glass/night making you fat. I wouldn't even worry about the cals. Red wine is good for you. Not a bottle a night though.

Oh Shuga, don't even worry about it. Have another glass! I love it when women talk about wine.

Re: About red wine?

As long as it’s not abused, red wine can, indeed, have a beneficial effect on your health. For a long time researchers were aware of the cardiovascular benefits of the flavonoids contained in red wine. More recently, they’ve discovered two other classes of antioxidants that further contribute to the well being of the drinker. The first, called saponins, act to prevent the absorption of cholesterol in the body while the second, resversatrol, is thought to inhibit tumor development in some cancers.

Re: About red wine?

I've heard that wine can actually make you a little more vascular after you drink it. I think Tom Platz believed it was true. Not sure tho.

Thanks quick. I've often wondered about the cals I'm consuming, although I only take one, maybe two small glasses a night, sometimes only one glass every other night.

I can get completely sloshed on three glasses - SMALL glasses.

Gone are the days I could swig 14 pints of Guinness with whiskey chasers and stay upright.

You're right on everything else, hun. You're probably right about this too (and yeah, 1 or maybe 2 small glasses a night is my limit anyway).

Have you tried the Banrock Station Shiraz Mataro? It's incredible, such a depth of flavour and with a nice fruity kick too.

Damn, I sound like it's my favourite or something...

I've been researching it as a matter of fact, for part of my OU course in cardiovascular diseases. Not only does it lower blood pressure and heart rate but over a period of time has a cardioprotective effect, which extends out into the peripheral arterial system.

It's intriguing, to say the least. Have a look on New Scientist, they've got plenty of red wine and studies done with it's benefits in mind (I think the latest was that it helped prevent osteoporosis or something).

Red wine relaxes the arterial walls, increasing blood flow to tissues and taking excess strain off the heart, so it also lowers heart rate and breathing rate. Good excuse for a glass a night, wouldn't you say?

I think me being italian, plus all these wonderful benefits would warrant a glass of wine at night. For the sake of my health, at least.
