I was just about to say that. I hardly ever use a stationary tred or bike. Running outside wins hands down. I live on a hill and around my area there are lots of hills i usually run around. Ive got too say mentally it is alot better running up a hill then jogging on the spot on a tredmill.

i would agree with most and say treadmil b/c it works out a lot more that just legs and a bike mostly works legs out and nothing else (unless u r one of those people who get into it with yer arms while ridin...lol)

If muscle complexes are present the bike can be the worst choice!

i don't really like the treadmill, prefer to go on a walk outside instead of being stuck on the machine, (doin the real thing)
i do like cycling though, so probably the bike. and again i prefer to go on my bike and ride somewhere instead of the ones in the gym
much more fun

!!!!!! Hahah burnnnn

haha I love the elliptical
treadmill for warmups
spin/RPM Bike classes .. 45min of pure sweat. Just mix and match the all up according to what you feel like, its all good.

I would love to run on the treadmill everyday, but my shins will kill me, elliptical makes time fly by, seriously!

If you only have a choice between the Treadmill and a bike, you'd better go with the Treadmill-- much better by far, but as Falco said, anything is better than nothing

I myself, like the elliptical best. Although I do ALL of my cardio training outside right now

Re: Treadmil (sp) v.s. Bike

I've done a lot of treadmill running and now some indoor cycling on a road bike with a fluid trainer.

Which is better ? I'd say about even.

First of all, if we are looking for cardio results, its all about heartrate. Used properly, either will get your heartrate up into the target zone and keep it there.

A treadmill is harder on the joints and muscles, because of the shock load. Tip: get a properly cushioned treadmill. Not a soft one. Not a hard one. It makes a huge difference.

I can do 40 minutes at a very high heartrate and feel great the next day on a trainer. If I do the same on a treadmill, I feel it more. I'm not looking to build muscle on a treadmill. I just want to get my heart rate up. A bike leaves me fresher for the workout the next day.

I'm more motivated on the treadmill. I like the ones with programmable courses, like riverside, hills, etc. I like to run a 5 or 7Km run on those courses. On my bike I watch my watch and change gears or effort levels every minute.

They both work. Right now I am using the bike and a trainer. I'll probably get a treadmill again in the future. Naturally I prefer real cycling and running outdoors, but there are times when Mother Nature doesn't cooperate.

BTW: It takes about a 1% incline on a treadmill to simulate real life running. Google and you can read all about it. 4% is way too much. The actual number depends on how big you are and how fast you run. Running at 0% on a treadmill is like running slightly downhill all the time.
