Yup 3500 calories is what I always went by. 500 calorie deficit per day should lead to a 1 lb lost a week. It's strange hearing otherwise. Good read.

Oversimplified but his facts are pretty straight. 3500 cal has always the energy IN a POUND of fat and not what you need to burn to remove a pound of fat from your body. The idea is of course to increase your efficiency.
