Stalling with Flat DB bench

I have been stuck with 80's for about a month. I am trying for 10reps for 3 sets and the past few weeks they have beeng 9/7/7 give or take a rep or 2. How do I fix this?

Re: Stalling with Flat DB bench

what else are you doing?
are you doing DB flat first, in the middle, last?
how long have you had flat DB presses in your routine?

Re: Stalling with Flat DB bench

Why don't you try heavier weight with lower reps? Every set does not have to have the same weight.

Re: Stalling with Flat DB bench

Do some pyramid sets with them. It's always a good change to the routine and you can lower the reps and up the weight.

If you can lift 80's for 6 reps and 90's or 100's for 3-4 reps, then do it to add more volume to build strength.

It’s my first chest exercise of the day, and I have been doing this since December. I recenlty added in decline bench to see if that would help but it has done nothing

Decline will NEVER help your bench. Inclines however will.

Try mixing it up for your next chest routine.

maybe an (almost)all-incline day...60 degree DB, 45 degree BB, 45 degree cable fly's, finishing with dips.

just an idea, something to mix it up.
sometimes not doing an exercise is the best.

Think about what SDB said too. Maybe you can't get a full 6 reps out of 90lb dumbbells, but you can get 3-4...Do a set or two with them, and have someone spot you and help on the last 2 reps.

Yeah, I agree with this. Also, keep your total bodyweight in mind. Make sure you are working your upper back and quads consistently. If you lose weight, you lose strength. Keep that protein coming!

Re: Stalling with Flat DB bench

backing off is sometimes the best way to progress! Give your muscles and nervous system a break instead of constantly trying to drive more and more weight each week.

sometimes we have to take a step back to take a couple steps foreward.

I have lost a few pounds. Do you think this is my problem? I was also forced to take a week off do to being sick however my strength is not what it was when before i was sick. Should I allow my strenght to come back then up the weight and lower the reps like SBD said or just do that now?
