Ever tried Lying bicep cable curls?

I have switched from barbell curls to this exercise"
Biceps Exercises - Lying Straight Bar Cable Curls

It really hits the biceps hard (because you can't lean back and cheat, we all do it lol) what do you reckon? Have you tried it. I really like it.

Re: Ever tried Lying bicep cable curls?

I've not tried it lying back, but standing cable curls are a fav. of mine.

I like to stick to the basics for arms.

I wouldn't do them as your primary exercise, but they might not be bad as a finishing exercise.

Re: Ever tried Lying bicep cable curls?

Tbh I think you guys are really missing out. The reason this is such a great exercise is that you can only use your arms, your back muscles can do none of the lifting because you are flat on the floor.
When I did standing cable curls I couldn't help but cheat a little towards the end, throwing the weight up as it were, the lying cable curls REALLY punish the biceps - I actually get doms while still doing the exercise.
I do 4 sets of standing DB curls and finish off with 3 sets of lying curls and I swear I've never hit my biceps so damn hard before.
If you have never tried them I seriously urge you to give 'em a go as a way of finishing the bicep part of your routine.
They are pure evil.

cheating is a good thing when used in moderation. IMO there is no replacement for standing BB curls, how beneficial they are to people depends entirely on whether they can keep good form.

Re: Ever tried Lying bicep cable curls?

In oct 2007 I trapped a nerve in my lower back, near the right hip, since then I've always been susceptible to twinges which is why I prefer to take the lower back out of the equation when it comes to bicep work, throwing the weight back, even just a little, could set my back off again.

Good for you. You've found an exercise that promotes benefits with safety. Yeah, I'd hate to see you hurt your back again.

LMAO!!

Elbow flexion is elbow flexion...doesn't matter if you are standing up or hanging from the ceiling.
