Yeah, it's hard enough to keep up your pullups as your weight increases, not to mention adding weight to them, as I'm obsessed with dong all the time. I think some of us need to be careful, really. Muscle ups are really a gymnastics move. You watch a guy on the high bar and your will see a muscle up basically...only not for reps, lol. But you don't see many 200+ pound gymnasts.

This is like one of those crossfit things and, well, I don't know if anyone's noticed, but crossfit philosophies do not produce big guys who have a hard time mastering their bodyweight..let alone without having beauscoup starting strength on a pullup.

But it's still fun to try it. It's hard to resist a challenge.

Re: Who can do a muscle-up

I'm gonne attempt my first one of these tonight.

I don't have a bar that I can do it on, so I'll use the cable fly machine which has square tubbing for its frame, hopefully won't be too hadr to grab hold of.

If I do it, I'll get someone to vid me doing one

Crossfit is where I got the idea from. They do not preach the best form on things, but I enjoy doing em.

Re: Who can do a muscle-up

The only person I know that can do a real one is a 5'5" vietnamese dude...who is a former gymnast.

I can get myself up, if I throw my abs on the bar...lol.

It depends on how high the bar is as well...the lower the bar, the easier to do(obviously) the pullup bars in my gym are about 8 feet...I could do one on a 7 foot bar...

also depends on whether you are talking from a dead-hang, or on the first one?

they are fuggin HARD.
I'll take a vid of me cheating tonight haha. I'll try to do a real one as well.

Re: Who can do a muscle-up

I have been able to do pullups more explosively lately but I'm not sure if it's enough for a muscleup. I can't find out because I do it on a bar in my doorway, so my head hits the ceiling if I try.

Re: Who can do a muscle-up

I CANNOT do a muscle up, not a clean one anyway!

I think I could manage maybe one if I could do it very horribley and possibly injure myself in the process!

haha...you wouldn't injure yourself...just do a pullup, and get your stomach on the bar. then push yourself up from there...
clean? hell no! but you still essentially did a "muscle-up" lol.

to complete a CLEAN version, you have to have an amazing mixture of strength and flexibility. Also, very hard to do when you weigh ~200lbs. easier to do when short/light...

Re: Who can do a muscle-up

mmmm a pull up would be nice first

would love to do these one day but one step at a time and build my pull up strength first, they be going into my routine after a long lay off in the next few weeks.

Trust me doing them on a bar and doing them on a fence/wall are two totally different ball games. I can pull myself and push myself right over a tall wall but the bar I can not.
