Thats why I would pick up as much weight as my grip could handle and stand and hold it for time.

If you can use chalk do so, but if you can get away from straps defnitly do!
so...in my situation(deadlifts), when my grip gives out after 2 with 405 i should just quit until my grip catches up?

I'll take the straps and an extra 5 reps. my back is more important to me than grip strength!
chalk is a suspendable offense in 95% of all gyms(i always let people use it on my shift though lol)

I generally like to jump out of helicopters and hang on to the base without a parachute on...works wonders for grip you'd be surprised how well you can hang on when life is on the line haha.

seriously though, you're right. those grippers hurt like hell though

very true...but it is messy as hell when in the wrong hands! and most people won't clean it up. so, IMO, good rule! too many douchebags to allow it. I almost beat the shit out of some kid that used chalk...didn't ask, and didn't clean it up. I walked over to him and asked him nicely to clean it up. he refused

he ended up with chalk on his face...and he cleaned everything up LOL. people are absolutely retarded.

what difference does chalk make lol??? you have a cleaning lady come in and clean up the floor at the end of the day....yes, cleaning it up should be a rule which all members should be informed of. if someone told me not to use chalk in a gym id most likely leave. there will always be extremes dude....some idiots have to mess it up but the idea is to work around it...not dump the whole concept. using chalk is far superior than all these fancy straps and shit anyways.

you have never worked in a gym...

the "extremes" you speak of actually represents 4/10 people that go inside gyms...probably more.

Re: Farmer's Walk

Ya we cant use any chalk in my gym. Kinda silly, but its more geared torward your 35year old lady.

BTW-if your pullups are heavy enough, your rows are heavy enough, and then you decide to do deads at the end and you cant hold the weight then by all means use something like straps, but if this is the case then you really have no need for grip work at that point.

Re: Farmer's Walk

They let us use chalk in my gym but they are really pissed off and about to take all of the 100-150lbs dumbbells aways because idiots keep luggin them half way across the gym and then not racking them when they are done.

We have that same problem here. We have one guy who uses those 100's in our gym and never re-racks em. Its absurd! I have to try to move them each and everytime I want to use em and by that point I am a bit tired.....
