Dips seem to hit make the whole back of my arm feel pumped..when cgbp only hit a certain area...and yea you are getting help from your chest and other muscles when doing cgbp, thats why i to cgbp last on my tri workout when my tris are easily exhausted and will burn out first before chest or any other muscles..Its a real nice finisher.

CGBP'S

My fav feally gives you a chance to add on more weight in a set. I am a big fan of the close grip press.

Re: Dips or Close Grip Bench Press?

Dips, like Malley and the others were saying, definitely have a potential for injury and some people really get the AC irritated. There are some form kudos that help but they can really have issues. I really have to be careful with them and limit them but I'm a very old man, haha. They are great though.

The biggest problem I've seen with cgbp has just been with a history of TOO close a grip and wrist problems from that. But that just comes from a misunderstanding about the exercise and form. For me though my regular bench grip is already pretty close so close grip have limited application for me...can't get too much closer without irritating the wrists and putting some strain on the shoulders. But I've managed to mess up every joint in my body in past years so....

Yes, I have to keep my wrists strengthened and not so close. When you get up to 225 and up on your close grips, you really notice it.

Re: Dips or Close Grip Bench Press?

Agreed also, close grip doesn't mean lets iwth like 2" between the hands like I some people doing it! lol

My grip is about shoulder width, maybe a little more closer, but minimum I'll go in is 12" between the grip. Also I keep my elbows inwards as much as I can to stop my wrists from having as much too bend.

Re: Dips or Close Grip Bench Press?

how do you all position your hands on the CGBP? I have seen people with their palms facing them rather then away. I tried it and i feel it more in my triceps.

I do the normal bench grip but about 8-12'' apart. I've also seen people do the grip you are talking about better never tried it.

You'll really feel it if that barbell slips out of your reverse grip like that!

Re: Dips or Close Grip Bench Press?

Does it pucker up so tight that you couldn't drive a needle through it with a 10 lb. sledge hammer?

I work out by myself a lot so I could never do such a thing.
